Back on the wagon again

Technically, I made no New Years Resolutions this year; or at least I didn't post any here on my blog. But I definitely had a mental game plan for some changes I wanted to make this year in my life. And one of those changes was in the area of diet and exercise.

Unfortunately, several tooth infections, which required dental surgery, which was then quickly followed up by a virus of some sort, did manage to side-track me from my goal. Starting a diet when your body is already trying to fight evil germ cells within your body, is not always the best way to see the end results you're hoping for.

My (hoped for) end result : 5 lbs off by Easter Sunday so I can look lovely in my Easter Suit. And said suit will actually fit me, and show off my wonderful womanly form without looking frumpy or bumpy;) I am hoping to lose about 8-10 lbs in the Month of April....if I can hang in there that long.

So I'll be sending a list of what I eat each day to a friend who is helping me to stay accountable. It's a small thing, but it really helps a lot. It makes you pause when you reach for that candie bar and then suddenly remember the fact that she's going to see you cheat (shame on you!!!) Besides, she's also on a diet, and I want her to be impressed by my incredible will power. :)

My brain is in gear for it this time, which is a very good way for me to start. So I have to get the Wii Fit up and running again so I can knock out a few opponents. Gotta build up that muscle you know, lol.

Also, I'm looking for some awesome nutritional supplements. There are so many kinds and name brands that it's overwhelming. I'm a fan of the TwinLab vitamins myself, but they run $30 for a bottle of specialized for women vitamins. A little steep. Does anyone want to share where they buy from, and the results of them using the products? I would love to hear the word of mouth information in this area, especially before I put down a lot of money in buying them. Anyway, I shall post my latest results each Monday to see what Progress I have made the prior week. No booing please...lol. Let's just think of it as a group therapy session;) Which is now over...

I hope you all are having a good beginning to your week. They're hinting at a couple days of sunshine coming our way in a few days, but it will possibly change by then (It's Oregon weather after all). Regardless, have a great week!

Spring Break

I want to thank everyone for their sympathy and prayers for the Princess. She is feeling much better.

This week starts our Spring Break, and I have to say that I am so very glad to be able to put aside homeschooling for a few weeks. I'm still feeling a bit worn out from being sick (in one way or another) for the past month, but I'm definitely not going to let that stop me from getting some of those long-delayed projects completed. Yesterday I went through our school room and purged it of unneeded items, including quite a bit of old curriculum. I'm hoping to put some of it on Ebay, but if all else fails it will make its way to the Goodwill. Either way, it has to go.

Today I'm going through the Princesses bedroom. She's at the stage (turning 7 in just a few months) where she is starting to turn to "big"girl toys. So the Princess-themed mega blocks, of which we have about 6 different sets, will also be going on Ebay. I admit it's hard for me to give up these symbols of her younger childhood. Just as it's hard to believe my baby could be turning 7 years old soon. *sigh*

Which reminds me... I gave the Princess an old calender/date book from last year. She loves to pretend she's keeping track of her busy schedule with it. Anyway, she had marked down that her birthday was the 3rd of June, and our Anniversary was the 5th of June. She was showing it to me, when she suddenly paused and said "Mommy, how did you have a baby before you were even married?" I was a little confused by the question, until she pointed out that the 3rd came before the 5th...lol.

Well, I better get to work. Have a great day~

My poor little Princess

The virus that has been making the rounds around here finally caught up with us this week. High fevers, sore throats, ect. The Princess was hit the worse, and she's been quite miserable. A few days ago her right ear started to hurt, and it got progressively worse. Last night she was up the whole night in so much pain, in spite of the fact that we were rotating Tylenol and Motrin every other hour. It just didn't seem to help.

So we took her to the Doctor this morning (yes, thank goodness they're open on Saturday; I love our Pediatrician). It turns out that her eardrum had burst, which I suppose accounted for the orange liquid dripping out (sorry, I should have warned those of you who are a bit queasy). I feel SO bad for her. It's just awful when your little ones are sick.

Our Leprechaun Traps

My children worked quite industriously last night on their leprechaun traps. Here's the finished product:Under the rainbow is a secret trap door...

A leprecaun trap done lego-style by the Artist. He put all kinds of goodies inside.

And this is what we found this morning:

All the traps were leprechaun-free, but we could definitely tell someone had stopped by from the trail of footprints... A few things were missing, including a miniature bottle of shoe polish the Artist had fashioned and placed in his trap. And the gold coins in the traps were replaced with treats. It's all rather mysterious...lol. My kids had so much fun with this, and are already talking about improvements in their designs for next year.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The ramblings of a confused mind

It's hard to believe that we're halfway through the month of March. Spring officially starts in just a few short days from now.

The last few weeks have been a bit of a haze to me. It's amazing how much you can function when you're sick. We're up to date in our school lessons, and my house even looks passably clean. But the days have seemed to pass in a bit of a blur. I promised I wouldn't talk about my tooth anymore (lol) so I'll just say that the healing took much longer than planned, and was very painful. Enough said.

Remember all my talk about Spring break and how much I was looking forward to it? Well, I'm still looking forward to it;) I thought it was this week, only to find out it's still a week off... so it would seem I lost a week somewhere along the way.

Tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day, and the kids are all abuzz with plans for their leprechaun traps. The Princess especially feels she has a good chance of catching one:) We're all looking forward to the party we have planned. I will post pictures of course.

Just thought I would give a short update of what's going on at our house. Have a great Monday~

My dental adventure

If dental talk makes you queasy, you might want to skip this post, lol. Honestly, I'm only going to share a little. Because who really wants to hear about another persons visit to the dentist? But just in case there is someone out there, here it goes.

Although I said I was looking forward to my surgery (the pain would be over, ect.), I actually ended up so panicked that without my husband there by my side (at least in the waiting room) I would have cancelled it. I've never been so nervous before. I think it may have been because they kept repeatedly asking me if I wanted the laughing gas. I finally asked "You are going to numb it, right?" For some reason the receptionist just seemed to have it on her mind.

It turned out the Dentist is actually a teacher at OHSU and was excellent at his job. He had it out in about 10 minutes. The other 20 minutes was spent regulating my blood pressure because it was going a little crazy;) Like I said, I was a bit nervous.

When I came out, I felt surprisingly good. So much so that I decided to pick up a few things at the store, and wait to take the pain medication til afterwards. I have one word for my decision: really, really stupid!! Okay, that's three words, but who's counting?

The Vicodin didn't help much, even after a double dose. So I was up all of Saturday night. I stayed home from church because I wouldn't have been any good there anyway. And when I stood up the pain was definitely worse. Not to mention that my face was not as pretty as normal;) Because of the swelling and all.

This would be a good time to mention (now that you've hung in there this long) that because of the location of this particular tooth, when they took it out it left open a small hole leading to the sinus area. So that had to be closed off, resulting in stiches. I suspect that has something to do with the prolonged healing time. As well as the fact that my infection isn't completely gone yet.

On the plus side, I'm hoping to be feeling better by next week, just in time for Spring break. I have so many things I want to accomplish during that time, as well as taking the kids on some outings. I'm already praying for nice weather.

Last night and tonight we're attending special meetings at another church. Then the rest of the week we have our own Missions Conference to attend. That, combined with many projects to finish for homeschool, is definitely going to keep us busy.

Please forgive my lack of blog visiting. I'm hoping to make the rounds a little later today. But I thought I should let all interested parties know how things turned out. Hopefully this is the last you'll hear of my teeth for a while:) Or at least that particular one, lol.

Have a great day~

Just checking in

It would seem that I've taken a bit of a break from blogging. Nothing is wrong (just in case a few of you have wondered:). We've just come to an extra busy time in our homeschool year. Spring break is in two weeks, and I want to have most of our projects done so I can actually enjoy it.

I'm also still dealing with a tooth infection. The pain is less due to the antibiotic I'm taking, but I can definitely still feel it taxing my energy. I feel like I've been in a mental fog for the last few weeks. The antibiotic makes me feel a little nauseous as well, but that's much better than pain;) My oral surgery is this coming Saturday, so just a few more days to go. I'm looking forward to getting back to health after it's all over with.

Other than that, there's not much else going on. Other than our usual day-to-day activities. Which is fine with me. I like routine. It helps me to be able to function regardless of what else is going on in life.

I probably won't post again this week, unless I'm feeling especially inspired, lol. But I do plan to take time out to visit blogging friends, so I'll still be around. Have a great week~
