Off to the Dentist's Office

I'm afraid it's true. I have a tooth that's very infected.

This particular tooth broke about 7 months ago and was filled with something (I don't know what it's called). Anyway, that came out now, and thus the tooth infection.

Have I ever told you what happened the last time I had an infected tooth? If you're already spooked by going to the dentist, DO NOT read the following:

I went in for an emergency visit. They tried to numb my mouth several times, but it just wouldn't take. Not a bit. So they said that the problem was that the infection was so strong it basically neutralized the numbing agent. The next step they did without any warning...

They gave me a shot right in the pulp of the tooth! I had no idea they would do such a thing!Because the assistant knew what was coming, she actually held me down. Believe me, it was neccessary (the holding down part). No, I didn't scream. But tears rolled down my face for several minutes, and I don't cry very easily over pain. I think they did feel a little bad about that.

So that is why I delayed this longer than I should have. I'm plain scared.

Unfortunately, anything I take for the pain makes me so sick to my stomach that I really have no choice but to go in. A tooth infection can make the whole body sick.

So hopefully the Dentist will listen to me and give me an antibiotic to kill the infection, and have a follow-up visit next week for the fixing of the tooth.

The worst part is that we have a mini-vacation planned starting tommorrow morning, and as things stand now, we may have to cancel it. The kids have been really looking forward to it.

So wish me luck... and a Dentist who will listen to me (it's worth a try;).

Oh my, make them pull it. Its the only sure way to stop this problem. Im so old school about teeth! I do hope you get to go tomorrow!

I am definitely going with pulling it over having a root canal. I really don't think it can be saved, seeing as half the tooth is gone. But I just want antibiotics today!

I had a root canal in one of my top front teeth when I was 14. They had to give me a shot up inside of my tooth, and they didn't give me any warning either. When I screamed (yes, I screamed), the endodontist grabbed my nose and told me not to be a baby. Needless to say, I did NOT return to him for follow-up. His partner was much, much better.

I hope your dentist listens to you. Doctors, dentists, even pharmacists don't tend to be good listeners.

I seem to be on a roll; not only did my dentist work with me perfectly, I also found a new nurse practitioner who is one of the best I've ever been to.

Funny what you said about Pharmacists Nikki, I quess you would know being one:) I suppose if I heard people's complaints all the time, I might grow a little weary and numb to it. I do always try to be as pleasant as I can to them.

It's not so much that we get numb to their complaints, it's more that we are usually so very busy. And since eleven people have already come in today with the same problem you have, we already know what you need.

I'm glad that your dentist worked with you; what did you end up having done?

Okay, I have a confession. I did not read this post. I saw tooth, infected, and "shot in the pulp" and I stopped even skimming. Enough for me. I'll be back when this post is not at the top of the page. =) Hope you feel better soon!

I know you pain sweet friend. Hope you feel better soon.
I have always had teeth troubles. Runs in the family. Both of my parents had false teeth by age 22.

I had full braces. So far 24 cavities (yes, I brush and floss 3x's a day. 4 root canals (2 on my top front teeth while preggers w/ the twins, oh and those are both porcleain crowns). I also have had b ridges, 4 teeth pulled (and 2 dry sockets)and a total of 6 porclein crowns.

We will not discuss $$$$$.........

let's just say I hope the twins inherit their Daddy's toothy genes!

Let us know how you are! Blessings
