What I did on my blogging break:)

I have to say, it was so nice to have hubby home for an extra two days this past weekend. That meant, of course, that I could put him to work! :) Really though, having a pair of extra-strong arms (not that I'm a weakling myself;) at my disposal made my jobs go much faster. I'm not very patient about waiting for his help with projects during the normal week, and I'm forever lifting and moving things I really shouldn't; which would be fine if it didn't mean a visit to the Chiropractor more often than not. And why do they (the Chiropractor) always insist on asking you how you pulled your neck or back out so badly?? I'm thinking they're hoping for a good laugh;)

Hubby had been wanting to take the kids to one of our biggest tourist attractions around here, Multnomah Falls. It is the second highest waterfall in the United States (not sure where the highest one is). You can hike a narrow (yes, I'm afraid of heights) trail up to the top where they have a platform which you can look down from... which we did not do. It's quite steep, and after about an hour of hiking, we were ready to go back down. The kids played in the creek there afterwards, which they enjoyed as much as the hike. All in all, we had a very nice time, and it was free... one of my favorite words when it comes to family outings:)

I did manage to get most of our school room organized. And also did some major de-cluttering (not sure that's a word) of various rooms.

I also pulled out all my Fall seasonal decorations. I had been chomping at the bit to do this, so it was quite a bit of fun. I have more decorations for this time of year than even Christmas. I plan to post some pictures tomorrow of my fall splendor, Lol. Nothing fancy I assure you, but it just makes it feel so warm and cozy inside.

And speaking of warm... it was quite chilly here for the Labor Day holiday. It's funny, I remember in the month of May when temperatures near 70 felt downright warm; but I guess it's just hard to go back the other way. It was overcast in the 60's here, and I am back to sleeping with my heating pad. They're forecasting we'll be going back to warmer temps soon, but I admit that I kind of like the cooler temps because they make it seem more like Autumn.

I think that brings things up to date here. We're not starting our home school year until next Monday when we have our first co-op meeting. If that seems late to those of you in the South, it actually isn't. Most of our local schools start today, and the public school takes so many days off during the year, that we always end up with more school days than they do anyway. I'm sure none of the kids are complaining;)

Have a great Monday!

Glad you're back!
Yes, next Monday does sound late to start school since kids here have been back for about 2 weeks!
My family visited several waterfalls when I was growing up, and I always thought that it was a very fun family activity. I especially liked playing in the water at the bottom of the waterfalls -- just like your kids!

It is so strange to hear you talking about chilly weather. It is blazing hot, here!!

Glad you're back...you were missed! And what an exquisite view in the photo above! Wow. Very nice!

Keep us in your prayers as TS Hanna (TS as of right now...it'll probably turn into a hurricane again sson) approaches our house!

Yosemeti Falls in California is the highest in the United States adn 6th highest in the world. It about four times higher than our Multnomah Falls. I've seen it and it's spectacular! It falls over 2000 ft I believe whereas Multnomah is between 500 and 600. I guess I should look my facts up but thats from the files in my head and my head files are usually quite accurate. Ahem!

Kaye: I am embarrassed to admit being minus TV sometimes equals ignorance; I get most of my info from online, and they seem to be only talking of Gustav. I will stop right now to pray for you, and will continue to do so. Take care friend.

Mrs.D: Thank you...I think. You and the Professor really are so much alike in some ways, LoL.

Hopefully it won't be anything to worry about, but I wanted to re-comment and tell you that your prayers and even the way you worded your comment particularly touched me. Thank you.

Welcome back. Wow that is quite the place. I am terrified of heights so I would be no good there. Back to the grind now but decorating in fall decor does help a little.

I'm afraid of heights, too. Thankfully, John isn't keen on them, either.

Several years ago, I decided that it wasn't worth it for me to lift heavy objects. I got tired of toting 50 pound sacks of grain. It's HARD! And John made it look so easy. Why should I strain myself to lift something that he can move easily?

I cannot say that it's cooling down here because it hasn't been a very hot summer. The highs are still in the lower 90's which is normal for this time of year. But I can feel fall in the air; I think it's the breeze. It's actually cool. Fall is my favorite time of year. The temps aren't too hot or too cold, and they stay that way for a while. We usually only have a couple of weeks of spring. From cold (for us) to hot.

About your starting school so late, well, I already told you when public schools started here. I think we will wait until after Labor Day, too, once we start.

I've missed you! But I'm glad you got a nice break.
