Weekend Redo

Last week I read a post on Niki's organizing blog about how she organized her coat closet. This happens to be one of the most frustrating areas of my home because I do not have a closet by either my front or back door. Or an entryway area. Both doors open straight into a main room of the house. And there really isn't any way to make twelve pairs of assorted shoes/boots look nice sitting in the living room or kitchen, not to mention those countless other going-out-the-door items.

I have tried the shoe bags in the bedroom, but with our rainy weather, the shoes were just too dirty and made a mess (even after being scraped on the door mat). So I put a couple shoe shelves behind the door...but I still wasn't happy with that.

Am I impossible to please? (atleast in this area;)

So I thought I would have one more try at it. By the way, I HATE before pictures; not other people's, just mine. But I didn't let myself fix anything up (or mop the floor of the doorway, which needs it atleast three times a day). So prepare to be shocked...

So I added another 2-tier shelf, and found somewhere else for the backpacks, boots, and anything else that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place to go.

And I added a few pretty touches since this area is unstrategically located in my living room.

So here's after:

Oh that is so beautiful and what a transformation. I am going to somehow place that on my organizing blog for readers. Actually I may be switching to that one only and expanding on more than organizing but more of both blogs together. It is getting too much for both and I must focus on the paying one but I wanted to do more than organizing. The work one wants for of what I write about so I think it may be possible to do this.

I can't imagine trying to keep up daily with two blogs; my second is purely as the mood hits, once or twice a week. Plus, I don't have to come up with great ideas for it:) I'm glad it's working out so well for you. And seeing your post on the coat closet really did remind me that I had been wanting to do something with this area..so thanks!

Looks so good! Now to keep it that way:) If you find that secret let me know. I can't wait to clear out all the stuff in my garage this weekend in our garage sale.

Great job!! We don't have a closet by our front or back doors, either, which posed a problem for hanging up coats, etc. I found a cute antique-looking wardrobe at a garage sale and use that for our "coat closet" in the living room. We get so many compliments on it and it's SO practical! ~Kristy

Okay, I feel like an igmo! I thought the first picture looked really good and thought it was the 'after" picture. So, WOW what a shock and I am VERY impressed to see the second picture (the real after picture).

Great job! Way to organize! Oh, we don't have a coat closet either. Blessings!!!
